23 Things Assignment #4

I used Warholizer from Big Huge Labs to create this image from a picture of Leonard Cohen.

I used Book Cover Generator from the Generator Blog to create this book cover. The pictures are all of animals and the choice is limited. This generaor might be useful for creating something for a display or a program.

I tried the Sudoku Generator, which created several sudoku puzzles with answers. This generator would be useful for sudoku enthusiasts.

I also checked out the Amazing Fact Generator and learned that President James Garfield could write Greek with one hand while simultaneously writing Latin with the other. I don't know how accurate the facts generated are.

I tried out a few other generators and browsed through the lists of available generators. While interesting, I don't think that I would make use of them.

23 Things Assignment #3

In addition to Library Journal News, I chose the following three RRS feeds -

NYT Book Review
Dictionary.com Word of the Day
BBC News/News Front Page/World Edition

Library Journal News is American so many of the articles are about a particular U.S. library or library system. However, you can find some useful information here.

NYT Book Review was a disappointment. Although posted this month, the most recent reviews I found were from 2004. I would like to see current reviews.

Dictionary.com Word of the Day presents a new word and its definition each day. This does not take long to read.

The BBC News/News Front Page/World Edition contains news from all over the world on a variety of topics - politics, entertainment, health, business, science, etc. This is useful if you want to keep up with what is happening in the world.

RRS feeds can be useful in keeping you abreast of the latest news/information related to a particular topic. However, there is a lot of information and it is time consuming reading through it. I work part-time and reading library RRS feeds regularly would be time consuming. I would have more time to read feeds which interest me at home.

23 Things Assignment #2

Eatonville Branch has beautiful gardens. They are maintained by the Etobicoke Horticultural Society, who do a wonderful job.

This is another picture of our gardens. If only I could get my garden at home to look like this!

This is our Wall of Fame for Keep Toronto Reading from several years ago. Our donor cards filled the walls in our foyer.

23 Things Assignment #1

I often hear references to Web 2.0, blogs and wikis but am not sure exactly what these terms encompass. I hope to find out what they are and what they can be used for.
